Artist Statement

My name is Jetwichan Chaowadee or widely known as Job. I have been pursuing in fields of Web Programming and Graphic Design during college time.

After many years that I have been studying in Web Programming and been coding programs, I found a concept of living when I first took some real art courses. At first, I did not have any art knowledge at all and did not understand why art is not working dynamically and is not functional. When I was making an art work, I had everything places everywhere. I did not know what the real meanings of composition and contrast are. However, I know the definition by translated to Thai, but the real meanings are vague.

Until one semester, I took a Typography course and I had been fascinated by the course. I have found what the meaning of composition and contrast are by looking at fonts. Every curve of typefaces has its own unique way. They give different emotions, expressions and characters. Especially, when they are combined with other font, it creates different perspective and unusual counter space. Audience might not be able to realize what they are even though they are just usual and simple typefaces that they are familiar. However, if we are trying to combine too many typefaces in a regular way, just simple texts and not making unique counter space, it would present an awfully result to the work. Thus, every typeface is trying to fight each other from their characters and different type of counter space. It made me realized that this little problem can make a huge impact to the whole work. Then I started to be picky in every design layouts and realized that all what I had done so far were not art works at all. They were just something that was pretending to be an art.

Typography changes all of my aspects and changes my real definition of art. Art is not just something that people throwing colors and objects on. It is a creativity, well thoughts, and unexpected piece of work. Art can be expressed in numerous ways depends on personalities. A slightly off-curved may ruin the work. However, if the art work is being too stiff, then it might not create a natural look. Some work it has to put a lot of efforts and some is just lucky. That is why artists have to keep creating art work. Once an idea gets through, possible creativities will follow. However, they have to know the right tools to use with. Indeed, they might end up wasting time creating nothing. That is one of reasons that we have to understand relationships between art & junk, and conception & understanding.

When I am struggle with an art work, I cannot solve art problems by calculating or specific science methods. Instead I have to get myself into the work and become a part of the work. Nevertheless, some work requires an artist to be able to use its own method to create animations. Now it is out of scope of visual art. Some example of these works is making a dynamic website. It requires the creator to have a programming and logic skills. Therefore, website will be flexible. By all means, if a creator wants to change one thing in the website, he/she does not have to go through and change in every other page. These skills become more effective to artists. They can present their works throughout the internet. Then their works will be able to inspire and encourage other artists.

Finally, my goal is to inspire other people. I always put all my efforts to the works. I consider myself is not perfect that is the why I have to keep my pace and expanding knowledge. Graphic Design is not something that requires only creative, but the understanding and conceptions have to be included as well.
